Sixth person dies after Melbourne CBD motorist rampage

A sixth person has died after a motorist went on a rampage through Melbourne's CBD on Jan. 20.

Victoria Police confirmed on Monday night that a 33-year-old woman died just before 7:30 p.m. local time on Monday night, becoming the sixth victim of the tragedy 10 days after the incident.

A three-month-old baby, a 10-year-old child, and three other adults were also killed after the vehicle sped through the pedestrian-only section of the Bourke Street shopping mall.

Dimitrious Gargasoulas, 26, remains in prison having been charged with five counts of murder over the incident.

Victoria Police said there were "other charges pending" but did not confirm whether Gargasoulas would be charged with a sixth count of murder.

The death of the sixth victim came as the City of Melbourne on Tuesday prepared to remove a memorial which had sprung up on Bourke Street.

Hundreds of flowers left at the memorial will be mulched and spread on a victims-of-crime memorial.

Teddy bears and letters that have been left by residents and visitors, many of whom were in Melbourne at the time of the incident for the Australian Open, will be saved to form a part of a permanent tribute.

More than 750,000 U.S. dollars has been raised for families of the victims.

The mother of three-month-old victim on Tuesday said the life without her son "isn't getting any easier."

"Every move I make, every corner of the house and every sight we pass by reminds me of my child," she wrote on social media in comments published by Fairfax Media on Tuesday.

"Amidst all this sadness, I feel so grateful to know there is so much love and kindness all around us."

Prosecutors will allege that Gargasoulas stabbed his younger brother at 2:00 a.m. local time in the south-east suburb of Windsor on Jan. 20 before getting in his car and driving recklessly around Melbourne, culminating in the Bourke Street tragedy.

The younger brother of the alleged killer send a message of support to "all the families involved in the tragedy" Monday on social media.

"To all the families of the victims involved in last Fridays tragedy, my heart goes out to you and for all those still fighting in hospital, my thoughts are with you and your recovery," he wrote. Endit
