Ukraine resumes poultry exports to EU

Ukraine has resumed exports of poultry to the European Union (EU) after an almost two-month suspension triggered by a bird flu outbreak, the Ukrainian government said on Monday.

The supplies were renewed as the EU has lifted a blanket ban on the poultry imports from Ukraine, allowing purchases in the regions, which are free from the virus, said a statement on the government's website.

The 28-member block has halted imports from Ukraine in early December after the country reported a case of bird flu in a private farm in the southern Kherson region.

Since then, Ukraine, which depends on the EU for some 16 percent of the total poultry exports, has been seeking a regionalized approach to the imports restrictions.

From January through October of 2016, Ukraine's poultry exports rose 46 percent year-on-year to 199,800 tons. Endit
