The following are news items in South African major media outlets on Sunday.

-- The African National Congress (ANC) was on the defensive all week after revelation that the party was involved in a covert campaign targeting opposition parties before the municipal elections in 2016.

The allegations emerged when Sihle Bolani, a public relatons expert who worked on the campaign, took the ANC to court for nonpayment.(City Press).

-- Police are keeping a close eye on protests in Booysens in Pretoria after some members of the community started burning tyres and barricading roads on Saturday morning.

According to police spokesperson Kay Makhubela, a protest in the neighbourhood that started on Thursday evening has left one person injured.(News24).

-- African National Congress (ANC) national executive committee member Fikile Mbalula said on Saturday the party will accelerate the pace of radical economic transformation.

Addressed hundreds of ANC supporters in Kraaifontein near Cape Town at the party's 105th-anniversary celebrations,Mbalula said that at the heart of transformation is the question of land ownership, which is being debated within the party.(Eyewitness News) Endit
