Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will meet with U.S. President Donald Trump on Feb. 10 in Washington, the White House said Saturday.
Trump spoke with Abe on the phone Saturday to discuss the importance of the U.S.-Japan alliance and cooperation on regional and global issues, the White House said in a statement, adding that Trump affirmed the "ironclad" U.S. commitment to ensuring the security of Japan.
The two leaders also committed to deepen the bilateral trade and investment relationship and agreed to consult and cooperate on the threat posed by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, according to the statement.
Soon after Trump's victory in the U.S. presidential election in November, Abe held unofficial talks with the then U.S. president-elect in New York. Endit
