Almaty, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) - Chinese women's ice hockey team were beaten 1-9 by the strong squad Canada in their first match in the Almaty 2017 Winter Universiade here on Saturday.
Canada was up by three goals after the first period and scored another six in the rest of the game. China, the fourth placed team in the last edition, only scored a consolation goal by He Xin at the end of the second period.
China's coach and team leader Luo Lei said: "Ice hockey is the traditional sport in Canada, we have showed what we learned in training and did a good job in our defense, but we had too many fouls in the game."
"Canada are the strongest team in our group and likely to win the top place, we will try hard to beat Kazakhstan in the second game," he said. Endit
