Maldives conveys greetings to China for New Year

The Maldives Foreign Ministry sent its warmest greetings on Friday to China for the occasion of the Chinese New Year.

"On behalf of President Abdulla Yameen, and the People of Maldives, I convey my greetings to President Xi Jinping and the people of China for the Chinese New Year," Foreign Minister Dr. Mohamed Asim said.

Asim said the Maldives and China shared strong relations which has been further strengthened following President Xi's visit to the Maldives and the two visits by President Abdulla Yameen to China within the last three years.

He said the number of Chinese investments in the island country is expected to increase in the future, and the Maldives has welcomed a number of Chinese investments including the bridge project and the development of the Velana International Airport.

He also underscored that this year would be a historical year for the two countries as they marked the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Endit
