At least 14 people, including one Chinese national, were trapped after a small gold mine collapsed in Tanzania's northwestern region of Geita on Thursday, local police and the mine's management said.

Mponjoli Mwabulambo, Geita Regional Police Commander, said the accident occurred around 4 a.m. at the Chinese-invested RZT gold mine in Nyarugusu.

ROME -- The final death toll of an avalanche that hit a hotel in central Italy last week rose to 29 people, Italian authorities confirmed on Thursday.

The last two bodies were pulled from the ruins of the Rigopiano hotel in the Abruzzo region between Wednesday night and Thursday morning, according to the national fire department. (Italy-Hotel-Avalanche)

MEXICO CITY -- Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said on Thursday he will not attend a work meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump scheduled for Tuesday in Washington.

SANTIAGO -- Raging forest fires in Chile have claimed nine lives so far, including firefighters, police officers and volunteers, authorities reported on Thursday.

SYDNEY -- A man and a woman have been killed after a Grumman G-73 Mallard flying boat crashed into Perth's Swan River on Thursday afternoon.
