The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) says nine Al-Shabaab militants were killed in a foiled attack on a police post on Wednesday evening.

The AU mission said Thursday that Al-Shabaab militants had attempted to attack the police post in Afgoye, a town about 30 km south of the Somali capital, Mogadishu, but were repulsed. Nine militants were killed in the fighting. (Somali-Militants)

LONDON -- The British Government laid a brief bill before parliament Thursday to pave the way for Britain's exit from the European Union.

There was no debate when the bill, taking up just two sentences, was formally presented in a process that took less than one minute.

VLADIVOSTOK, Russia -- Nearly 50 fishermen were trapped Thursday on floating ice in Russia's Far East city of Vladivostok after the chunk they were sitting on drifted away from shore, the city's press service reported.

"At this moment Vladivostok's emergency service has began the rescue operation at the bay of Fyodorov. Emergency service staff have already come to the area of the accident with an airboat," the press service said in a release seen at about 0800 GMT. (Russia-Accident)

GHAZNI, Afghanistan -- A would-be suicide bomber was killed as his explosive device went off accidentally in Afghanistan's eastern city of Ghazni on Thursday, provincial police chief Aminullah Omarkhil said.

"A suicide bomber terrorist riding an explosive-laden rickshaw and apparently was attempting to target security forces convoy but accidently the device exploded in Kalasabz neighborhood outside Ghazni city this afternoon, killing himself," Omarkhil told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Terrorist)

ANKARA -- The Turkish military said Thursday that it killed 23 Islamic State (IS) terrorists in Al-Bab, in northern Syria, in the previous 24 hours.
