Jordan, EU sign grant deal of 58.85 mln USD

Xinhua, January 26, 2017 Adjust font size:

A Jordanian official said Jordan and the EU signed a grant agreement of 55 million euros (58.85 million U.S. dollars) on Thursday.

The grant will be used to support the state budget and finance development projects, said Imad Fakhoury, Jordan's minister of planning and international cooperation.

It will help reduce Jordan's pressure in hosting what official figures show some 1.4 million Syrian refugees, he added.

The minister said his country will also use the grant to enhance business environment and create jobs for the youth and women.

The grant will help implement a deal between Jordan and the EU under which Jordanian industries enjoy simplified export procedures, said Fakhoury.

The minister revealed that the EU has pledged an additional grant of 82 million euros to Jordan. Endit
