Ghana drops in corruption perception index in 2016

Ghana recorded a drop in rating at the 22nd Corruption Perception Index (CPI) Report for 2016 released here by Transparency International (TI) Wednesday.
According to the report, Ghana ranked 70 out of 176 in this year's index with 43 points.
This year's score is the lowest so far in Ghana's CPI scores since 2012. The country scored a CPI of 45 in 2012, 46 in 2013, 48 in 2014 and 47 in 2015.
The 2016 CPI score indicates that in spite of Ghana's efforts at fighting corruption, the canker is still a serious problem.
Linda Ofori-Kwafo, Executive Director for anti-graft crusader, Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII), the local chapter of TI, said the performance of the West African country in the CPI was bad.
She called for strengthening of state institutions and commitment on the part of the political leadership to minimize perception of corruption in the country.
"For a country to perform effectively, the country should be able to show commitment by the political and institutional leaders," she said.
On the African continent, Botswana comes first with a score of 60, ranking 35 globally and followed by Cape Verde with a score of 59 and ranking 38 globally. Enditem
