French shares gain on Wednesday

French stocks rose on Wednesday, with the benchmark Paris CAC40 index up 0.99 percent, up 47.64 points, to close at 4,877.67 points.

Twenty-nine of the 40 blue-chips gained in the day.

The top three gainers were Societe Generale, whose shares advanced 4.32 percent, followed by BNP Paribas' 4.16 percent and Lafargeholcim's 3.35 percent.

The top three losers were Vivendi, down 2.18 percent, Arcelormittal, down 2.17 percent, and Nokia, down 1.28 percent. Endit
