Ukraine's industrial production sees recovery in 2016

Xinhua, January 26, 2017 Adjust font size:

Ukraine's industrial production has recovered from the four-year-long crisis, growing by 2.4 percent in 2016, local media reported Wednesday, citing data from the State Statistics Service.

Last year, Ukraine's processing sector rose by 3.5 percent from a year ago, while the industries of electricity, gas and water production and distribution increased 2.6 percent, the data revealed.

The mining industry posted the worst performance among the key sectors in 2016, declining by 0.3 percent year on year.

Ukraine's export-oriented industrial sphere had been declining in 2012-2015 due to the slump in demand for its main products in the global market and the conflict in eastern regions, the country's industrial heartland.

In 2015, Ukraine's industrial output plummeted by 13 percent, with all key sectors showing a double-digit decline. Endit
