Second day of cancelled flights at London Heathrow airport

Xinhua, January 24, 2017 Adjust font size:

Flights were disrupted for a second day at London Heathrow airport Tuesday with dense fog causing about 100 cancelled flights.

A similar number of Heathrow flights were cancelled Monday because of fog.

A spokesman at Heathrow said persistent freezing fog had reduced visibility and led to 100 of around 1,300 scheduled flights being cancelled.

Passengers planning to fly from the south of England to Scotland were advised to check for delays.

Ferries linking the Isle of Wight with the British mainland were also suspended because of fog.

Meteorologists at the Met Office issued fog and ice warnings covering Wales and most areas of England.

The Met office has warned dense fog will re-form across eastern and southern England overnight, with fog clearing slowly on Wednesday.

Conditions are expected to improve from Thursday though it will remain colder and windier. Endit
