Poland hopes for deepening relations with U.S.

Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo expressed hopes for further deepening Polish-U.S. relations and cooperation on Friday when referring to Donald Trump's swearing-in as the new U.S. president.

Szydlo said Poland and the United States are partners and no matter what happens, we can count on each other.

She stressed that the United States is an important ally in NATO for Poland, saying "Just recently, Poland welcomed U.S. soldiers, decisions of the NATO summit in Warsaw are being implemented, the eastern flank is being strengthened. These are concrete examples showing that Poland and the United States are partners."

During a press conference, Szydlo said that "regardless of what times we have and what is happening we will be able to count on each other."

When asked about expectations towards the new U.S. President at a press conference on Friday, Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski also expressed hope for more focus of the bilateral ties on the security of Central-Eastern European region.

"We welcome new American administration with hope for raising the issues of our region's security," Waszczykowski said, adding that Poland has felt in recent years as if this subject was marginalized.

But he expressed his content in the strengthening of NATO's eastern flank, and underlined the fact that Poland hoped for upholding and implementing the decisions made in last year of Barack Obama's term of office.

Waszczykowski said he hoped that "Central-Eastern Europe will be an important element in global policy of the United States." Enditem
