Indonesia's ex-airline CEO declared suspect in bribery case

Emirsyah Satar, a former CEO of airline PT Garuda Indonesia, was named a suspect in a bribery case, involving manufacturer of aircraft engine Rolls-Royce, the deputy chairman of the country's anti-corruption watchdog said on Thursday.

Satar was accused of receiving bribes for the purchase of engines made by Rolls-Royce for 11 A330-300 Airbus planes owned by PT Garuda Indonesia from 2005 to 2014, Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission Laode Muhamad Syarif said.

"ESA (Emirsyah Satar) received bribes from suspect SS (Sutikno Sunarjo) in the forms of cash and goods," Syarif told a press conference.

The total value of the goods was equal to about 2 million U.S. dollars, he added.

The commission noted that the case only involved individual actions.

The PT Garuda airline said it was fully cooperating with the watchdog in the investigation.

The anti-corruption watchdog had worked with foreign law enforcers as the case allegedly involved individuals from European and Asian nations. Enditem
