Malta's rate of inflation down in 2016

In 2016 Malta's rate of inflation reduced to 0.9 percent from 1.2 percent in 2015, Malta government stated on Wednesday.

However in December 2016, the annual rate of inflation measured by the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices went up to 1.0 percent, from 0.8 percent registered in November 2016.

The largest upward impacts on annual inflation were registered in the Food and Nonalcoholic Beverages, Restaurants and Hotels and the Furniture indexes.

The Recreation and Culture, Clothing and Footwear and Communication Indexes had the largest downward impacts on the annual inflation, reflecting lower prices for package holidays, garments and communication services. Enditem
