Albania sends second contingent of troops to Aegean Sea under NATO mission

Xinhua, January 19, 2017 Adjust font size:

A second contingent of the Albanian Naval Force troops was deployed Wednesday to the Aegean Sea, as part of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) mission there, the Albanian defense ministry said in a statement.

The first contingent of troops was deployed about two months, marking Albanians first-ever maritime mission with NATO in the Aegean Sea.

This operation was developed as part of international efforts to stop the illegal trafficking and migration, the defense ministry said.

The second 21-soldier contingent will continue to support the NATO mission in Aegean Sea and cope with the wave of refugees and the problems that this phenomenon has brought, according to the statement. Endit
