Tokyo shares close higher on weaker yen

Tokyo shares rallied on Wednesday on the weaker yen while investors tried to take advantage of the sharp falls over the two previous days.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 80.84 points, or 0.43 percent, from Tuesday at 18,894.37.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 4.76 points, or 0.32 percent, higher at 1,513.86.

Gainers were led by iron and steel, marine transportation, and oil and coal product issues.

The day's turnover was about 2,228.2 billion yen (around 19.72 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
