Zambia, Ethiopia seek to enhance bilateral ties

Xinhua, January 16, 2017 Adjust font size:

Zambia and Ethiopia will this year hold a joint permanent commission meeting aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two countries, a senior official said on Monday.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Harry Kalaba said the joint permanent commission, to be held in Lusaka, the Zambian capital, on March 28 would improve trade and economic activities between people of the two countries, according to a statement released by his ministry.

Three bilateral agreements are scheduled to be signed during the joint permanent commission, he added.

Among the bilateral agreements are visa waivers for Zambians entering Ethiopia, an extradition treaty and an agreement to be signed by Ethiopia to establish its embassy in Zambia.

The Zambian minister said the government recently pardoned 127 Ethiopians who were serving jail sentences as a gesture of good will. Endit
