Two terrorist suspects detained at Hungarian border

Two women being sought throughout Europe on terrorism charges were apprehended at Hungary's southern border, Hungarian News Agency MTI reported on Friday, citing local police.

The two women, one a Belgian and one a French citizen, who are 18 and 19 years old, were traveling aboard a bus that was on route from Vienna to Sofia late on Thursday night. The bus was halted before it crossed the Serbian border for a check before exiting the European Union.

Police discovered that the two were the subjects of a Europe-wide hunt for terrorism-related activity and detained both of them.

Speaking on public television channel M1, Gyorgy Bakondi, chief advisor to Hungarian Prime Minister on internal security, said the two women had been planning to travel to Damascus from Sofia to reach the terrorist organization ISIS. They are known to have participated in "terrorism-related activity," he added.

He said that one of the women presented a false passport at the border but was recognized nonetheless.
