Barca-Madrid cup final still possible after quarter-final draw

Xinhua, January 14, 2017 Adjust font size:

There is still a chance of a Barcelona-Real Madrid or Real Madrid - Atletico Madrid final in the King's Cup knockout competition following the draw for the quarter-final which was made on Friday lunchtime.

After knocking Athletic Club Bilbao out in the last 16, Barcelona will face another difficult tie in the Basque Region after being drawn to face Real Sociedad with the first tie to be played next week in San Sebastian.

Barca drew 1-1 away to Real Sociedad in the league before Christmas, but were very lucky to come away with a point from the game after being outplayed for 90 minutes in a ground where they have not won for 10 years.

Real Madrid will play the first leg of their tie against Celta Vigo at home, while Atletico Madrid play Eibar, who they defeated in the Liga Santander 2-0 last weekend for a spot in the last four.

The only second division survivor in the competition, Alcorcon have a tie against Deportivo Alaves, with the first game at home, as they look to make history and qualify for the semi-finals. Endit
