The following are news highlights in Zambia's major media outlets on Thursday.

-- The Malawi anti-corruption agency has confirmed that it was sending three of its investigators to Zambia to probe the procurement of 100,000 tons of maize.

The Malawi Anti-Corruption Bureau said it has taken up the matter to investigate the scandal which has been dubbed the maizegate scandal after complaints of irregularities in the awarding of the contract.

Lucas Kondowe, the director of the agency said it will work with the Zambian Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to analyze documents related to the deal to establish if there was any element of corruption. (Daily Nation)

-- A court has found an opposition leader in Zambia with a case to answer and placed him on his defense over a charge of illegally entering offices of the country's state broadcaster.

Nevers Mumba, leader of a faction of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD), has been found with a case to answer on two counts of criminal trespass and giving false information to a public officer.

The opposition leader, who is also the country's former vice president, is alleged to have stormed the offices of the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation on November 28 last year after lying to police offices at the gates that he had appointed and is also alleged to have intimidated staff on duty in the newsroom over a story the broadcaster had run.
