Albanian agricultural exports increase 22 pct in 2016

Xinhua, January 8, 2017 Adjust font size:

Albania's agricultural exports went up by 22 percent year on year in 2016, official statistics showed on Saturday.

Agricultural experts here told local media Saturday that such growth was supported by new investment in improving agricultural infrastructure and the growing government subsidy schemes for farmers.

According to the experts, exports of fruits and vegetables have given an impetus to the export figures, almost doubling in value against other products.

Albanian agriculture exports are dominated by vegetables, but also early season vegetables grown in greenhouses, said the experts.

They added that investment and growth of domestic agricultural production is generating export growth, making the agricultural sector the backbone of the country's economy. Enditem
