The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) announced Thursday to add some 1,270 more flights to meet with demands of local passengers during the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday.

The number posts an increase of 8.5 percent compared to regular flight schedule, said CAAV.

Among the figure, Tan Son Nhat international airport in southern Ho Chi Minh City will see additional 1,065 flights during the period, which means 38 more flights a day.

Specifically, among 1,270 additional flights from Jan. 16 to Feb. 12, 2017, the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines will have 380 flights, low-cost VietJet Air will provide 560 flights and Vietnamese-Australian joint venture Jetstar Pacific will offer 330 flights.

Local carriers had appled to add over 2,400 flights during the period, but only 1,270 have been approved by CAAV.

This year, Vietnamese employees will be off from work from Jan. 26 to the end of Feb. 1, 2017 to celebrate the Lunar New Year holiday. The year of the Rooster will start from Jan 28. Endit
