Tokyo shares open flat on gains lock-in

Xinhua, January 5, 2017 Adjust font size:

Tokyo shares opened nearly flat in early trading Thursday, as market investors tried to lock in gains from the rally of the previous day.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average fell 9.83 points, or 0.05 percent, from Wednesday to 19,584.33.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 1.89 points, or 0.12 percent, at 1,556.37.

Gainers were led by marine transportation and insurance issues, while decliners were led by mining, and oil and coal product issues. Endit
