22 militants killed, Afghan senior army commander sustains injury

Up to 22 militants have been killed as cleanup operations in Charkh district of the eastern Logar province entered its third day on Wednesday, deputy to provincial police chief Nisar Ahmad Abdul Rahimzai said.

"Up to 22 Taliban rebels have been killed and three others injured since launching cleanup operations in Charkh district three days ago," Rahimzai told Xinhua.

Two Taliban commanders namely Mullah Wazir and Mullah Samad are also among those killed in the crackdown, which has been continuing, the official asserted.

Meantime, another official on the condition of anonymity has confirmed that a senior army commander General Abdul Razeq has been injured and three police personnel lost their lives in the war against Taliban in Charkh district over the past three days.

However, Afghan Defense Ministry in a statement released here has confirmed that commander of a brigade in Charkh district of Logar province sustained injuries in bomb blast but his condition is table. Enditem
