Myanmar's Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC), chaired by State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi, has formed three supervision committees for holding political dialogues at national level for Kayin state, Tanintharyi region and Nay Pyi Taw Council Area respectively.
UPDJC announced the above decision in a statement Saturday, without specifying the exact date of the dialogues.
Under the working process of political dialogues at the national level and principles on the dialogues included in the framework of political dialogues, race-oriented political dialogue will be held in Kayin state, region-oriented political dialogue be in Tanintharyi region and subject-oriented political dialogue, also known as civil society organizations (CSO) Forum, be in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area.
The supervision committee for political dialogue at the national level for Kayin state is headed by U Min Tin Win, Minister for Ethnic Affairs, while that for Tanintharyi region led by U Saw Lu Kar, Minister for Ethnic Affairs and that for Nay Pyi Taw Council Area led by U Aung Myin Tun, member of the Nay Pyi Taw Council, the statement said.
The supervision committees for political dialogue at the national level are tasked to make efforts for the successful and systematic holding of the dialogue.
The dialogue between the government, armed groups and political parties are expected to be launched in January in the three regions, which are deemed to be ready to host the dialogues.
The preliminary meetings for the national political dialogues will follow and the outcome of the dialogue will be submitted to the Second Panglong Peace Conference planned for February in accordance with the Nationwide Ceasefire Accord (NCA).
Myanmar government has agreed to four out of eight points demanded by non-ceasefire signatory armed groups, represented by the United Nationalities Federal Council (UNFC), at a meeting in Yangon in October on the occasion of the anniversary of NCA, leaving the remaining four points for further negotiation.
The first 21st Century Panglong Peace Conference was held in Aug-Sept 2016 in Nay Pyi Taw.
However, the outbreak of military conflicts in the border area of northern Shan state on Nov. 20 has delayed the peace process. Endit
