Nigeria's secret police vows to sustain onslaught against terrorists

Nigeria's secret police has pledged to sustain its offensive against kidnappers and terrorists in the country in a bid to ensure a safer nation.

Spokesperson for the Department of State Security Tony Opuiyo said in a statement Friday that an offensive was launched against kidnappers, terrorists and other criminal elements as part of its ongoing tactical operations to degrade the capabilities of criminals.

The offensive had led to the arrest of the trio of Abubakar Musa, Ismail Musa and Suleiman Mainasara on Nov. 29 at Aduwawa in the southern city of Benin in Edo State, he added.

They were members of a kidnap gang that terrorized commuters and residents of communities along the major highways between Edo and Kogi States, prior to their arrest, Opuiyo said.

According to him, three more suspected Boko Haram fighters were on Nov. 30 arrested at Durbunde village of northwest Kano State, in continuation of its fight against terrorism.

The secret police spokesperson added that the trio had perfected plans to carry out a series of coordinated attacks in selected states of the northwest zone in November to disrupt festive activities during the end of year and the New Year of 2017.

He pledged the Service commitment to the safety of all citizens including members of the international community while calling on the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, parcels, and vehicles to the nearest security formations. Endit
