Greek ambassador to Brazil missing: Foreign Ministry

Xinhua, December 30, 2016 Adjust font size:

Greece's Ambassador to Brazil, Kyriakos Amiridis, has been missing since Boxing Day, the Greek Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday.

The Greek embassy in Brasilia was informed on Wednesday from the ambassador's family that they had not been able to contact him since Monday evening, when he visited Rio for the Christmas holidays, according to an e-mailed press release.

Brazilian authorities have launched an investigation to gather more information on the case, the statement added.

The 59-year old diplomat took office as Greece's Ambassador to Brazil in January 2016. He served in Rio as consul-general from 2001 to 2004 and then Greece's Ambassador to Libya in 2012.

He is married and has one daughter. Enditem
