Macao's unemployment rate remains at 1.9 pct

Macao's unemployment rate and the underemployment rate stood at 1.9 percent and 0.7 percent in a three-month period ending November, the special administrative region's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) said on Thursday.

That numbers were the same as for the three months between August and October.

According to the latest job report, the total labor force was 393,100 and the labor force participation rate stood at 71.9 percent. Total employment decreased by 4,000 to 385,500.

Analyzed by industry, employment in construction registered a decrease, while that in education and retail trade saw an increase.

Number of the unemployed was 7,600, up slightly as compared with August to October. Fresh labor force entrants searching for their first job accounted for 14.7 percent of the total unemployed, down by 4.5 percentage points, the DSEC survey indicated.

The labor force participation rate dropped by 1.3 percentage points, while the underemployment rate rose by 0.1 percentage point compared with the same period last year. Endit
