Former Argentina star Veron announces comeback, aged 41

Xinhua, December 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

Former Manchester United midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron will come out of retirement to play for Estudiantes next season, the Argentine club said on Wednesday.

Veron, who will be 42 in March and has not played for more than two years, signed an 18 month contract on a minimum salary, which will be donated back to Estudiantes.

Having begun and ended the first part of his career at Estudiantes, Veron is currently the club's president.

He has been seen training in recent weeks after vowing to play again if supporters bought 65% of viewing boxes at the club's new stadium.

Veron, capped 73 times for Argentina's national team, will be available for Estudiantes' 2017 Primera Division campaign and the Copa Libertadores, South America's top club competition. Endit
