20 die in Zambia road accidents during Christmas

At least 20 people died while 155 others injured during road accidents recorded during the Christmas period in Zambia, the police said on Wednesday.

The country recorded 201 road traffic accidents from December 23 to December 27, out of which 15 were fatal accidents, police spokesperson Esther Katongo said.

She said that this was an increase from last year when 13 people died in 99 road traffic accidents recorded during the Christmas period.

She added that the country recorded some criminal activities with the highest being assault occasioning bodily harm with 64 cases, followed by 48 cases of general thefts, 26 house breaking and 11 cases of unlawful wounding.

The spokesperson said police officers will continue conducting foot and motorized patrol on both highways and communities during the festive period. Endit
