Austria's 2016-2017 winter tourism season has begun with a record start in the month of November, according to figures issued by Statistics Austria on Wednesday.
The month saw 4.64 million overnight stays at hotels and lodging, an increase of 2.2 percent year-on-year.
The number of foreign guests staying overnight went up by 2.6 percent to reach 2.58 million.
Most notable was a 15.3 percent increase in overnight stays from British guests, while stays from Czech guests also increased 10 percent.
Overnight stays from domestic guests meanwhile increased 1.8 percent to 2.06 million.
The total number of guests who stayed at some form of accommodation also reached a record high, increasing 2.7 percent to 1.91 million persons.
Statistics Austria noted that the figures come despite November typically only making up about six percent of the total winter overnight stay numbers, with the busier months of January and February making up about 50 percent combined. Endit
