Trump Tower evacuation caused by backpack filled with toys

Xinhua, December 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

A suspicious package that caused the Trump Tower in New York City partially evacuated on Tuesday turned out to be a backpack filled with children's toys, said the New York City Police Department.

A backpack was found unattended in a public area within the building, where U.S. President-elect Donald Trump resides, according to authorities.

Part of the building was subsequently evacuated while police went in to investigate the package. A bomb squad was also called in.

Video posted on social media by passers-by showed people running out of the building in panic.

The backpack was declared safe by the police after a short period of investigation. Police said the bag was filled with children's toys.

Trump himself was not in New York City when the incident took place.

The vicinity of Trump Tower is one of the busiest shopping districts of New York City. Security was on high alert ever since Trump's election. Endi
