Morocco lauds UN "historic" resolution on Israeli settlements

Xinhua, December 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

Morocco lauded on Tuesday the adoption by the UN Security Council of a "historic" resolution calling on Israel to stop all settlement operations in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Following the adoption by the UN Security Council on Friday of Resolution 2334, the Kingdom of Morocco "welcomes this historic decision and expresses its satisfaction with the unanimity of the international community on the non-legitimacy of the Israeli settlement policy," the Moroccan foreign ministry said in a statement.

Israel's persistence in its settlement policy constitutes a threat to the peace in the region and undermines all efforts to reach a final, just and comprehensive solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, on the basis of international legality and the two-state solution, the statement said.

The North African kingdom reiterated its constant position and support for the Palestinian people to establish their independent state, it added. Endit
