Egypt busts judicial employee for bribery of millions of dollars, euros

Xinhua, December 28, 2016 Adjust font size:

Egypt arrested a senior judicial employee over bribery and found millions of Egyptian pounds, U.S. dollars, euros and Saudi riyals in his residence, besides his possession of large amounts of gold accessories, vehicles and real estates, state-run Al-Ahram news website reported on Tuesday.

The report said that the Administrative Control Authority (ACA), an Egyptian official anti-corruption body, busted the man's home following his reception of bribery and found 24 million Egyptian pounds, 4 million U.S. dollars, 2 million euros and 1 million Saudi riyals in his possession. (1 U.S. dollar = 19 Egyptian pounds)

The local media identified the man as a purchase manager at the country's State Council, but not a judge.

In two separate cases in November, the Egypt authorities arrested and sacked two senior judges, one over possession of 68 kilograms of hashish drug and another over accepting a large bribe to acquit a defendant in a drug smuggling case.

Last week, ACA said that it busted a national agricultural company's chief over bribery related to favored import orders and a tax official over bribery to reduce a company's 4 million pound taxes. Endit
