Saudi takes steps to control money raising activities

Xinhua, December 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

Saudi Interior Ministry has warned individuals from collecting blood money, while such fund-raisings should be collected through official bank accounts, Okaz local newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The ministry stated that the accounts should be opened by head of districts to avoid exploitation of the raised money.

Convicts who face death penalty for accidently causing the death of others, such as traffic accidents or fights could be spared from the sentence if blood money will be given to the victims' families.

Some families ask huge amounts that is difficult for convicts to pay, so nationwide campaigns are usually held to raise the amounts.

The newspaper highlighted that the ministry should approved the bank account and its duration, as well as those who are authorized to manage the account.

Saudi Arabia has been taken serious steps to control money raising activities as part of measures to dry up the financing sources of terrorism. Endit
