Ukraine's 2016 GDP growth to exceed government forecast: PM

Xinhua, December 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

The recent economic data has indicated that Ukraine's gross domestic product (GDP) growth will exceed the government expectation for this year at 1 percent, Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said here on Friday.

"This year, the economy will grow by 1.5 percent, while in 2015 it shrank nearly 10 percent," Groysman told reporters.

The latest economic indicators showed that a positive trend will be strengthened in the coming year, Groysman said, pointing that the government estimated that the GDP will expand by 3 percent in 2017.

After contracting for two years, Ukraine's economy returned to growth in the first quarter of 2016, with the GDP increasing by 0.1 percent year-on-year. The economic growth accelerated to 1.4 percent in April-June and 2 percent in July-September. Endit
