Ukrainian schools get China-donated computers

Xinhua, December 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Ukrainian government said on Friday it started distributing more than 23,000 of computers donated by the Chinese government to the schools across the country.

Among them, 747 computers were supplied to the educational establishments in western Ternopol region, while 633 were delivered to the schools in northern Sumy region, said a statement posted on the government's website.

"This will improve the quality of education and will form information and communication skills of the school youth," the statement said.

The Ukrainian Education Ministry received a batch of computers from China in October.

According to Education Minister Liliya Grynevych, China's aid will help establishing modern computer classrooms in some 1,000 schools, allowing thousands of children, particularly those living in rural areas, to get access to quality education.

The donation is a part of a broader contribution by China to supporting the development of education in Ukraine.

In August, the Chinese government handed over modern educational equipment worth about 273,000 U.S. dollars to the Ukrainian authorities to establish three linguistic classrooms at Kiev Gymnasium, where about 600 students are learning Chinese. Endit
