Tokyo shares slip on gains lock-in ahead of holidays

Tokyo shares closed lower Thursday with investors continued locking in profits ahead of the coming holidays at home and abroad.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended down 16.82 points, or 0.09 percent, from Wednesday at 19,427.67.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 1.12 points, or 0.07 percent, lower at 1,543.82.

Decliners were led by insurance, precision instrument and marine transportation issues.

The day's turnover was around 2,159 billion yen (18.36 billion U.S. dollars). Enditem
