BiH tightens security around embassies in Sarajevo

Xinhua, December 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

Police have tightened the security measures around the embassies of Russia, Turkey and Germany, as well as other facilities in Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) on Tuesday, a BiH official said.

At present there is no information to indicate that the security situation in BiH has deteriorated, but some adverse events could be expected, Mirsad Vilic, head of the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of BiH, was quoted as saying by local media.

He stressed that all the information are being exchanged with other police agencies and on this basis they will decide how long they plan to enforce the increased security measures.

Vilic also pointed out that his agency is cooperating with other institutions on preparing operational plans for securing the public celebrations of New Year's Eve in Sarajevo.

The introduction of increased security measures in Sarajevo came after the murder of Russia's ambassador to Turkey in Ankara, an attack on the Berlin Christmas fair and shootings of a group of people who were praying in Zurich by an unknown perpetrator, which all happened on Monday. Endit
