Rwanda to tighten security during festive season

Xinhua, December 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

Rwanda will put more police and soldiers on the streets to deter possible security threats and crimes from criminal attacks during Christmas and New Year festivities, Rwanda police has announced.

According to a statement released by the Rwanda police on Tuesday, security will be heightened as part of the effort to prevent crimes that are committed by people especially during the festive season.

"The police will maintain its usual alertness but called on owners of public places such as bars, entertainment spots, the business community and the residents to avoid the laxity associated with the celebration mood," according to the statement.

The public was also asked to be vigilant by carrying out proper night security patrols while motorists were asked to avoid over speeding and not to drive under the influence of alcohol, which are other causes of insecurity.

According to police, criminality also comes in different forms ranging from pickpocketers to burglaries, thefts of goods and properties in fraudulent deals among others.

Heightening security will include among others tightening vigilance through the establishment of security checkpoints at the entrances of public gatherings, and other vulnerable public venues. Endit
