Two Afghan army personnel were killed and one soldier wounded in a roadside bomb attack in eastern Kunar province on Tuesday, police said.

"Two Afghan army soldiers died and one other wounded following an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack in Nawabad locality, outskirts of provincial capital Asadabad city at early Tuesday morning," Farid Dehqan, provincial police spokesman, told Xinhua.

The unit was travelling to visit army security checkpoints before the blast and one army van was also destroyed by the explosion, he said.

Dehqan blamed Taliban militant group for the attack.

The Taliban has been using the home-made IEDs to target security forces.

On early Monday, five Taliban fighters were killed and two others wounded after an IED they were planting along a road went accidently off in Asmar district of the mountainous province, according to Afghan army sources. Endit
