Slovenia condemns killing of Russian ambassador in Turkey

Xinhua, December 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

Slovenia strongly condemned on Monday the killing of Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov, who was shot dead at an exhibition in Ankara, the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) has reported.

The Slovenian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned on Twitter the "cowardly assassination", sending condolences to Karlov's family and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Meanwhile, the Parliament Speaker Milan Brglez expressed the hope that the incident would not worsen Turkey-Russia relations, warning that any deterioration could aggravate destabilisation, not only in the region but also more broadly, a press release from his office said.

Earlier on Monday, Karlov, who served as Russian ambassador to Turkey since 2013, was shot dead by a gunman when he spoke at the opening of an art exhibition in Ankara. Endit
