Rouhani unveils Iran's "Citizen Rights Charter"

Xinhua, December 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

President Hassan Rouhani on Monday unveiled Iran's "Citizen Rights Charter" to uphold rights issues as one of the keys policies of his government.

The government is determined to preserve the citizens' rights through unveiling the charter, Rouhani was quoted as saying by Tehran Times daily.

The government is duty bound to implement all the terms in the charter, Rouhani told a forum entitled "Constitution and People's Rights."

The charter partly insists on the right to clean water, health services, freedom of speech, clean environment, holding rallies and access to information, according to the report.

Rouhani sought the country's judiciary and legislative bodies help in applying the charter.

Implementing the charter is "beneficial" to all and lays a "good basis" for "integrity and national unity," he said, adding that it provides the "main basis for development of the country."

All Iranian citizens enjoy equal rights regardless of their "ethnicity, gender, religion, and political tendency," he stressed. Endit
