Tokyo shares close lower by break following U.S. market decline

Xinhua, December 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Tokyo shares closed the morning session lower on Monday as the U.S. stock market ended lower last Friday amid disappointing U.S. housing starts data for November.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average slid 43.48 points, or 0.22 percent, from Friday to 19,357.67.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange dropped 4.26 points, or 0.27 percent, to 1,546.41.

Decliners were led by iron and steel, nonferrous metal and marine transportation issues. Endit
