Czech army plans to buy 12 new helicopters

Xinhua, December 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Czech army planned to buy 12 new helicopters next year, as part of the country's 2017 defense contracts, Defense Minister Martin Stropnicky said on Sunday.

Total defense contracts for next year are worth nearly 25 billion crowns (1 billion U.S. dollars), according to Stropnicky.

He said there are several important purchase contracts for the Czech Republic in 2017. Crucial contracts include the purchase of 12 helicopters, 20 Pandur APCs, 62 Titus armoured vehicles and modernization of 33 Dana howitzers.

In addition, a complex servicing of the Mi helicopters will cost almost 3.5 billion crowns.

These helicopters include the Mi-24/35s, which the air force originally wanted to discard, but it eventually changed its mind. Czech army should maintain the combat helicopters capacity, said Stropnicky.

Stropnicky said his ministry hopes these purchase contracts could be approved by current cabinet before the general election in autumn 2017. Enditem
