The ruling party in Burkina Faso has said that "narco-jihadists" are behind the deadly attack on Friday of an army camp close to the border with Mali.
At least 40 heavily armed unidentified gunmen attacked military basement of Nassoumbou on Friday, killing 12 soldiers.
The People's Movement for Progress (MPP) pointed accusing finger at terrorists and "narco-jihadists", though to date no forces have claimed responsibility of the murderous attack.
In a statement released on Saturday, the party in power "condemned in the strongest terms the barbaric attack" and "saluted the memory of valiant soldiers fallen in action for the defence and the honor of the Nation."
"MPP notices that the forces of evil associated with nostalgic, revengeful and occult forces of a fallen power make every effort to thwart the progress of post-insurrection Burkina Faso," the statement said.
The statement went on to underscore that 2016 had been a year of tragedies, citing deadly assault in January at Cappuccino restaurant and the Splendid Hotel in the capital Ouagadougou, with the number of fatalities reaching around 30.
MPP urged the government to be more vigilant against attacks. Endit
