Afghan army kills 6 militants in fresh operations

Xinhua, December 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

Six militants were killed when the Afghan army waged a nationwide offensive since early Saturday, the Defense Ministry said on Sunday.

"The Afghan National Army in close coordination with police and intelligence agency personnel carried out cleanup operations in Nuristan, Nangarhar, Uruzgan, Farah, Faryab, Kunduz and Helmand provinces over the last 24 hours, killing six armed militants and wounding seven others," the ministry said.

The joint forces also seized weapons and defused several landmines during the above raids, it said in a statement.

The Afghan security forces had beefed up security operations recently as militants were attempting to take territory and consolidate their positions ahead of winter in the mountainous country. Endit
