The following are the major news items in leading German newspapers on Saturday.

-- Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras defended his course during the debt crisis when visiting Berlin.

His government decided this week to give out 617 million euros (645 million U.S. dollars) to the low-income pensioners despite its huge debt to the creditors.

Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

-- The Bundesrat, Germany's upper house, did not approve the bill passed by the Bundestag, the lower house, to cut the refugees' benefits.

The relief money for refugees living in the camps will drop to 299 euros per month per head with a 10 percent decrease, according to the bill.
